Not had your COVID-19 booster yet? Get yours during our week-long Norfolk and Waveney booster jab-a-thon

The Norfolk and Waveney health and care system is pulling out all the stops to make getting a COVID-19 booster even easier by opening up more drop-in clinics than ever before to get a lifesaving vaccine, with no appointment needed.

Additional walk-in clinics are being announced as part of a collaborative approach to get as many people vaccinated before the end of January as possible.  The walk-in slots are provided in addition to bookable appointments – with thousands of these now also available through the national booking system online and the 119 telephone number.

Health leaders in Norfolk and Waveney are urging anyone 18+ to come forward for their COVID-19 booster vaccination and reminding those due a first or second dose that it is never too late to get vaccinated.

The news comes following the launch of the Norfolk and Waveney #VAXFACTS campaign, aimed at people who have yet to get vaccinated or receive their second and booster jabs to help dispel myths and lay out the science so people can make a well-informed decision about their own health.

Dr Anoop Dhesi, Chair of NHS Norfolk and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Some people, especially those who are younger, have been really conflicted about whether or not to get vaccinated against COVID-19 because of things they’ve heard online.

“As far-fetched and ridiculous as some of the rumours and misinformation are, unfortunately there are people who listen and make a choice to not come forward and get vaccinated against this virus which has killed thousands and made life for millions miserable.

“#VAXFACTS is helping to make information as clear as possible, linked to science, using factual information. I encourage everyone to get their COVID-19 booster over the coming week to protect yourself, your family, your work colleagues and the wider Norfolk and Waveney health and care system. Every one boosted gains maximum protection which can reduce hospitalisation from Omicron by as much as 80%.”

The planned walk-in clinics provide a good spread of COVID-19 booster locations, closer to home.

Said Dr Dhesi: “We’ll be jabbing all over Norfolk and Waveney - in shopping centres, community venues, at hospitals, GP practices and pharmacies from Kings Lynn to Waveney - to protect local people.”

“We are all desperate to try and get back to normal – but we must do this safely; the easiest way of doing this is for everyone eligible to get their COVID-19 booster as soon as possible.”

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to all our system partners for setting up additional clinics so quickly and giving people the convenience of just walking in for their jab.  We have listened to local people and hope that more clinics, some in the evenings and at weekends will be popular with those who struggle to make it during the week due to work or childcare commitments.  Thanks to all our vaccinators, support staff and volunteers for working flexibly to make this possible.”

This weekend, letters will start to arrive through doors of people that are yet to get their COVID-19 booster vaccination in a drive to remind people of the importance of getting their booster dose, now.

Dr Dhesi added: “As a GP, I wholeheartedly encourage everyone who is yet to come forward for their COVID-19 booster to get their vaccine this coming week. The letters provide vital information and make it clear where you can get your COVID-19 booster over the coming week.

“I see and hear, every day, such sad news about people in hospital or losing their life to this horrid virus; the evidence is clear, not getting vaccinated against COVID-19 puts you at much greater risk of serious illness and death.

“Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your family and your friends, whether it be a first, second or booster dose.

“It also means that you are much less likely to end up in a hospital bed that could otherwise be used to treat someone else.”

Walk-in clinics are advertised on the Norfolk and Waveney walk-in site, which can be found at https://apps.norfolk.gov.uk/WalkIn/
